Waterloo Kiln

About Waterloo Kiln

Waterloo Kiln is believed to be the only surviving nineteenth century pottery kiln in Yorkshire. The pottery operated in Swinton from 1745 to 1842, operating as the internationally famous Rockingham Works from 1826 until its closure.

It is one of the few places in the country representing the development from coarse earthen wares for the local market, to fine porcelain and pottery for export.

Restoration

In November 2022, Waterloo Kiln was added to the Heritage at Risk Register as the condition is declining due to age. A restoration project was undertaken in 2024 to improve the condition of the structure and make it more accessible to the public. This project was funded by generous support from Rotherham Council Capital funding and Historic England.

Installations
