Volunteering

Volunteers help us to open our heritage sites, offer our visitors a friendly welcome and support us to provide access to Rotherham’s Collections, archives, and shared stories. We’re grateful for the work of all our volunteers for their constant support and enthusiasm.

We offer a range of volunteering opportunities from tour guiding and supporting events at our heritage sites, to supporting schools and families access and enjoy our museum, with opportunities to volunteer across museum collections, archives, visitor experience and our café.

If you volunteer with us regularly, we have a range of opportunities to meet others and share your experiences, including our annual volunteer celebration event. We also offer special invites to previews of events and exhibitions, and Go See Visits with the Museums, Arts and Heritage Team.

Child smiling at a Volunteer

“I’ve been volunteering at the museum since January, and I really enjoy it. I’ve gained skills, it’s increased my self-confidence and I’ve met some lovely people from the local community. I find it such a rewarding experience, it’s something I always look forward to and I would recommend it to anyone.” - Katie, volunteer for Nelson’s Cub Club.

If you would like to volunteer for us and find out more information about our current opportunities, please get in touch with us by emailing heritage.volunteering@rotherham.gov.uk.

Donations

We do not charge entry to the museum and aim to make our events as accessible as possible. To help us with this mission, we accept donations at both Clifton Park Museum and Boston Castle. These allow us to keep our services and events free of charge so that as many people as possible can enjoy the museum and are used to support our work and further opportunities within the museum.

Community projects

As part of our work with communities we also support Friends and Community groups around our heritage sites to develop their programmes and projects.
