Archives and Local Studies

Who are we?

Archives are records created by a person, family, or organisation which are preserved for future generations because of their continuing historical, cultural, and evidential value. Here at Rotherham Archives and Local Studies Service, we collect, preserve, and provide access to hundreds of years’ worth of informational resources that reveal the rich history and heritage of Rotherham.

These primary sources come in many different formats, shapes, and sizes, but all reveal something of interest about how our ancestors lived in the past and how the local area has changed or add to our understanding of present-day Rotherham.

The archive and local studies collections are made available for all to discover in our Search Room at Clifton Park Museum, and online. Archival records can also be found on display in the galleries at Clifton Park Museum.

We also run a varied programme of talks and other events, which can be found on our Events Page. [link to page]
