Keppel’s Column

About Keppel's Column

Keppel’s Column is a 115-foot monument built between 1773 and 1780 to celebrate the acquittal of British Royal Navy officer and politician, Admiral Keppel following charges of treason. It sits on top a hill in Thorpe Hesley, overlooking Wentworth Woodhouse.

The site has been inaccessible for over 30 years but with generous support from Rotherham Council Capital funding, Historic England, Fitzwilliam Wentworth Amenity Trust and Historic Houses Foundation the structural repairs on the internal staircase and external stonework have been completed.
